History of Sphynx Cats

Sphynx was first bred in 1966 in Ontario, Canada, when a hairless kitten was born from a black and white cat. This magical-looking kitten had wrinkled skin with no hair. People were shocked to see the kitten, and it was named “Prine” because of its wrinkled skin and unique look. The owner started to breed Prune with other cats to create more hairless kittens. In this attempt, some kittens had the same appearance as Prune, but others did not. The same offsprings were again bred and these cats were named Canadian hairless cats and Sphynx cats. The name Sphynx was given to them because of their similarity to an ancient Egyptian cat sculpture known as Sphinx.Sphynx cats resulted in making great pets, and people around the globe started to have them as their home pets.
